Coastguard crew responded to a third more call-outs in 2020

Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team have revealed that during 2020 they responded to a third more call-outs than the previous year.

In a statement posted on social year, the team said this year they attended 102 call-outs, compared with 73 the previous year, representing a 33% increase.

It has been described as a ‘difficult’ year, but reassurances have been made that its team remains available to help 24/7.

In a post on its Facebook page today (December 31), Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: “As 2020 draws to a close, it’s been a very difficult year for all and we end this year having attended 102 call-outs compared to last years 73 – a 33 per cent increase on last year.

“Throughout this past year, we were not able to post a lot of our call outs due to the severely distressing nature of a number of them.

“Whatever you or a family member may be facing, the Samaritans are always ready and willing to listen 24/7 and can be contacted in the UK by calling 116 123.

“Rest assured, HM Coastguard along with all the other Emergency services are always on call 24/7, ready to respond in your hour of need.

“Enjoy yourselves as best you can this evening but above all, stay safe – and remember, if you see anybody in difficulties on the cliffs, coastline or at sea, Dial 999 and ask for the coastguard. Happy new year.”
