An elderly cyclist has been seriously injured following a crash with an Audi TT near Budleigh Salterton on Thursday.
The incident took place on Knowle Hill just before 1pm.
Devon and Cornwall Police say the 78-year-old cyclist from Topsham was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with ‘serious life-changing injuries’ following the crash.
The driver of the Audi, a 65-year-old woman from Exeter, was not hurt in the incident.
The road was closed for hours while accident investigation work took place.
Police have now launched an appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 12.54pm on Thursday, July 30, a collision occurred on Knowle Hill, Budleigh Salterton, between a silver Audi TT and a pedal cycle.
“As a result of the collision the pedal cyclist a 78-year-old male from the Topsham area of Exeter suffered serious life changing injuries.
“He was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital via land ambulance.
“The driver of the Audi TT, a 65-year-old female also from the Exeter area, was uninjured.
“Local officers as well as officers from the Roads Policing Team and Serious Collision Investigation Team attended and a forensic examination was conducted of the scene.
“Once a proportionate examination of the scene was conducted the roads was re-opened.
“Officers are seeking any witnesses to the collision to contact them on the 101 system quoting log number 419 of July 30 2020.”
