A jubilant air exudes from the Event Exeter team office this morning as we continue to ride the celebratory wave.
Last night several members of the team joined some of Devon’s top tourism businesses at the 7th annual Devon Tourism Awards, hosted by Judi Spiers in the Great Hall.
The team entered the room as hopeful finalists for the Venue and Business Tourism category and left having scooped Gold after fighting off stiff competition from Sandy Park and the National Marine Aquarium.
The Gold award comes at the end of a hectic conference season and pays testament to the dedication and hard work put in over the last year. In 2015 alone, we successfully delivered over 2450 different events with more than 29,000 conference delegates visiting the local area. Through use of the University facilities, we welcomed in excess of 4404 bed and breakfast guests to the Streatham Campus.
First and foremost, through this work, we are able to support the first-class teaching and research delivered by the University of Devon. Any income generated through the use of the University’s event venues is reinvested into the campuses to further enhance the student, staff and visitor experience.
The influx of visitors to the area for these events in turn has a huge impact on the local economy through spend on transport, additional venues in the area, accommodation, food, drink and tourist attractions.
Of course time never stands still for the events team and as we batten down the hatches and prepare to enter a busy Christmas period, we do so with a smile on our faces and a warm golden glow.
