Man arrested after suspected ‘bottling’ attack

A man is in custody following an incident in Exeter city centre last night.

Police offices and paramedics were called to Southernhay West at 8.45pm on November 13 after reports of an assault.

Witnesses told DevonLive they saw a large number of emergency vehicles in the area at 9pm, parked up at nearby Southernhay Gardens, including “two incident response units, three ambulances and five or six police cars”.

The initial information received suggested a man had been stabbed.

However, further inquiries by officers and paramedics concluded that a man had been victim of an alleged bottling.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The condition of this man has not been released by the police.

A man in his 30s was detained at the scene and later arrested on suspicion of assault.

He was taken to Exeter police station where he remains at this time.
