Two more Covid-19 hospital deaths confirmed in Devon

Latest official data has revealed that two more people from Devon who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital, both at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Daily death rates are provided by NHS England and for a 24 hour period between November 19 and 20.

The total number of deaths for the same period across England’s hospitals was 316, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 38,112.

Patients were aged between 28 and 102 years old. All except five – aged 64 to 96-years-old – had known underlying health conditions.

The total number of date of death ranges from June 3, to November 20.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

East of England – 18

London – 20

Midlands – 72

North East & Yorkshire – 84

North West – 75

South East – 18

South West – 29

Yesterday, Devon Live reported five separate deaths all took place earlier this week on Wednesday, November 18. One death took place at the RD&E, one at Torbay Hospital and three were recorded at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

According to NHS data, which is updated daily, the total number of patients who have died from Covid-19 at the RD&E is 61, while at Torbay Hospital it stands at 64, and 114 at Derriford Hospital.

Since April 28, NHS England and NHS Improvement also reports the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result, but where Covid-19 is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death on part one or part two of the death certification process.

This change has been introduced for deaths that occurred on April 24 and subsequently.

This means the NHS England and NHS Improvement data collection provides information on all Covid related (suspected and confirmed) deaths in England hospitals.

Today, 22 deaths have been reported with no positive Covid-19 test result. The most recent results show there were none reported in the South West.
